Google's
Chrome
extensions
have revolutionized online interactions, providing a seamless way to integrate various functionalities into our browsing experience. However, not every extension lives up to these expectations. One such example is the Genesys Cloud for
Chrome extension
, a software app dedicated to enhancing
communication
and
collaboration
through
video
chats and
note collaboration
. Despite its promise, this extension has received a mediocre aggregate rating of 2.75 out of 5, with users highlighting several shortcomings that are worth delving into.
Concerns Raised by Users
One key issue raised by users like Dillon Kelly is the lack of configuration flexibility, particularly regarding the choice of regional settings. The extension defaults to the US1 region, neglecting users in other regions like US2. Any attempts to modify the default settings only result in errors, rendering the extension useless for non-US1 organizations.
Additionally, users such as Chandu SC and Matthieu Frys expressed satisfaction with some features such as the click-to-dial function and the overall simplification of its usage. However, they also noted some limitations that they believe are inherent to the Chrome Extension itself.
Limitations of the Extension
Practical functionality issues also plague this extension. Users like Zachery Lawhead have criticized its call waiting system, which can disrupt ongoing calls with incoming ones, leading to involuntary hang-ups. Others, like Nidz Blah, noted that there are missing key features from the web-based version, such as custom ringtones and message options. The extension's usability remains further hampered by persistent sign-in issues and unresponsiveness, as reported by users Sandschi and Prabhat Jatav, respectively.
The Verdict: Is Genesys Cloud for Chrome worth it?
Considering the user reviews and its low aggregate rating, we advise against installing this extension until the developer addresses the highlighted issues. While it offers features that could potentially enhance
online video
communication and collaboration, its current state is fraught with technical problems and limitations that hinder an optimal user experience.
In essence, while Google's Chrome extensions can significantly enrich our web browsing experience, it's crucial to ensure that they function as expected. It's also key to remember that not all extensions are created equal, and their value can only be ascertained by a careful evaluation of user reviews and ratings.
3 Reviews For This Extension
It just works. I wish I could pin it to the side of Chrome so it doesn't move around, but that's a windows/Chrome thing A bunch of people here complaining that they can't see their orgs and regions etc., from the extension icon (a red cloud) in Chrome, go Options and then update the URL field to reflect your normal GC domain e.g. https://apps.mypurecloud.com.au
I too will only give it one star. I couldn't login. It kept saying it didn't recognize my organization or my sign in was incorrect. The sign in works fine on the webpage. Once it has more development maybe it will be stable.
This is getting one star as it needs more development. I am writing this review in the hopes that either Genesys or google look at this and get this fixed. I will be bring this up to my Google rep as well. With the default configuration you have no way to choose your region. Genesys Cloud has many different regions. The default here goes to their US1 region. My organization is in US2 and the user has no way to change that. If you try to config the json for this the extension will either once up with a 404 not found if you use the URL for the US2 region or if you use the whole URL for the organization logon then the extension will just load a blank page. However if you use those same URLs through the browser and not the extension everything works as expected. This is true on chrome devices and on non-chrome devices running a chrome browser. This needs to be fixed as it would be unusable for any organization that is not hosted in US1.
